How We Verify

A tutor climbs four tiers before we ever recommend them to your family

We don't hand out a single "verified" badge and call it done. Every tutor in our network is checked in stages — identity, qualifications, actual teaching ability, and finally, real feedback from families over time.

The four tiers, explained

What actually happens at each stage

Here's more detail on what each verification tier involves, and why it exists.

1
Level 1

Registered Tutor

Anyone can apply, but registration itself has a bar: government-issued ID and working contact details are confirmed before a profile moves any further. This stage exists purely to filter out fake or unreachable applicants early.

2
Level 2

Verified Tutor

Academic qualifications are checked against the degree or certification claimed, and prior teaching experience is cross-checked where possible. This is where most surface-level directory listings stop — we treat it as the starting point, not the finish line.

3
Level 3

Demo Verified

The tutor records a teaching demo on an actual topic. Our team reviews it for clarity, pacing, and whether the tutor checks that the student is actually following along — not just whether the answer on the board is correct.

Level 4

Trusted Tutor

Earned only through consistent, positive feedback from real families over multiple placements. This status can also be lost — a Trusted Tutor who receives serious negative feedback is reviewed and can move back down a tier.

Why we do this

Verification is only useful if it's actually enforced

Plenty of platforms say "verified" without a real process behind it. Here's what we specifically try to avoid.

A degree isn't the same as teaching ability

Plenty of well-qualified people can't explain a concept clearly to a struggling 14-year-old. The demo stage exists specifically because paper qualifications don't test this.

Trust isn't a one-time checkbox

A tutor who was great a year ago isn't automatically still the right fit today. Ongoing feedback keeps the verification current, not frozen at registration.

Higher tiers get matched first

When shortlisting for your family, we prioritise Demo Verified and Trusted Tutors — the tiers with the most evidence behind them.

Common questions

Verification process — before you reach out

Government-issued ID and contact details are verified at registration, before a tutor profile is even considered for the next verification tier.

Our team watches a recorded demo on an actual topic and evaluates clarity of explanation, pacing, and whether the tutor checks for understanding, not just subject correctness.

Feedback is reviewed and can move a tutor down a tier or out of the network entirely, depending on severity. Trusted Tutor status is earned over time and can be lost.

No, verification tier reflects how thoroughly a tutor has been checked, not their fees. We prioritise higher-tier tutors when shortlisting simply because they carry less risk.
